Just what is ACTIVE?
Active is a concrete response to the need to respect the environment.
Thanks to the complex research carried out by Fiandre, today porcelain stoneware slabs can boast a unique new feature: the application of micrometric titanium dioxide powder, as attested to by the numerous certificates obtained, turns Fiandre slabs into an eco-active "super material" with concrete antibacterial and anti-polluting properties that help to improve the environment we live in. It has been demonstrated that 1000 square metres of Active material cuts nitrogen oxide levels to the same extent as 20 timber trees!
At Cersaie Fiandre will be presenting a space that shows just what this achievement means: a place that brings together technology and the environment, economy and ecology: a space where the idea of wellbeing is inspired by respect for nature.
The Fiandre stand will be a sort of virtual market square, at the centre of which will be a tree, intended as an invitation to make active, aware choices, since every single action taken by Man is important to build a great "tree of life" all together.
The Bologna event offers an opportunity to remind the public of just how committed we are to coming up with an innovative way to build.
Fiandre will be presenting its latest materials, designed to respect the environment, such as the Quarziti range in the large 150x75 cm, and Serie100, brought up to date with the application of ACTIVE methodology in the two colours White50 and Grey70, as well as Wellness System (a wide range of solutions designed for swimming pool areas) and a number of new features in the New Ground range, with the insertion of a slim, smooth, silk-touch finish, further enhanced by the large 120x60 size.
Tuesday 28 September will also see another high point in the development of the innovative Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic™ production method: day one of the fair will come to an end with the presentation of the International Award Active Architecture, organised by Fiandre in collaboration with Il Resto del Carlino as part of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Bolognese newspaper.
The aim of the award is to stimulate and to promote eco-active planning and design, a new concept in eco-friendly design products guaranteed through the use of the appropriate materials.
Those professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of contemporary architecture will see their efforts rewarded by the jury called upon to decide the winners. Serving on the jury will be Pierluigi Visci and Pierluigi Masini, editor and assistant editor respectively of Il Resto del Carlino; Carlo Branzaglia, head of the Design Center in Bologna; Silvio Cassarà, an architect who teaches at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ravenna and is a visiting professor at the N.Y. Institute of Technology; Luca Molinari, an architect and Professor of Architectural Design Theory at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Naples II, and Graziano Verdi, the President and CEO of GranitiFiandre.
A special prize has also been set aside for students from the faculties of Architecture and Engineering and from Schools of Design: an exemplary way to encourage a "green" conscience right from the university days of tomorrow's professionals. In addition, considering the outstanding level of the projects entered, a number of special mentions will be made for particularly deserving entries.
Winners will be rewarded with trips to the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, where they will have the chance to admire a number of outstanding Italian-made products, first and foremost by Fiandre itself, which the Government Commisariat has chosen to tile the floor of the 7000-square-metre Italian Pavilion.
