AILATI DIALOGUES: TALK OF SUSTAINABILITY AT THE ARCHITECTURE BIENNIAL

During the two days of events "For a colourful, ethical, sustainable Italy" held on Saturday November 6 and Sunday November 7 at the Italian Pavilion in the 12th International Architecture Exhibition, pavilion curator Luca Molinari presented a meeting to discuss “Architecture and sustainability – The sustainable project in its most advanced and experimental forms in Italy”.

The event offered an opportunity to talk about research in Italian architecture, about the need for new points of view in study to adapt to new social, economic and cultural needs.

On Sunday, November 7 the event, which was held as planned in the Italia2050 section focusing on the future and on active experimentation, brought together authoritative personalities from the Italian architecture scene to tell the audience about their most advanced, recent experiences, discussing issues that are still pending and possible solutions to them.
Architect Massimo Iosa Ghini discussed his experience with the rapid line that is to link the city of Bologna to its airport: an entirely sustainable infrastructure that will produce energy for adjacent areas. Studio C+S Associati discussed the examples of the first class A+ public school to be built in Italy and reclamation of the island of Sant'Erasmo in Venice lagoon. Also on the issue of sustainability, La Fabbrica del Sole + Modo Urbano presented an application of the off-grid sustainable energy generation system and Modus Architetti illustrated a plan for a fully sustainable cogeneration station just outside Bressanone. The event was attended by Matteo Gatto, head architect for Expo 2015: another opportunity for Italy to impress the world with innovations in every field.

GranitiFiandre, drawing on its recent experience at Expo Shanghai 2010 and its partnership with the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale, discussed social responsibility in production of materials that concretely help truly sustainable architecture.
The company presented the architects and designers in the audience with an introduction to Active Clean Air & Antibacterial CeramicTM, an innovative productive method based on the principle of photocatalysis triggered by titanium dioxide. Active is the concrete result of experimentation with new formulas in architecture today. The ongoing study and research that have led to production of this innovative product demonstrate the potential of Italian architecture that is still in the process of becoming.
The event was a great success for all, and yet another opportunity to draw attention to the latest new advances in the art.
