PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE: GENEROSITY, BODY, WONDER AT FUORIMADE 2011
Thursday 6 october 2011, 8.30 pm, Via Solferino 17 – Milan
The Floornature international architecture portal, partner of the Foundation of the Order of Architects in the video documentaries of the Itinerari di Architettura Milanese and always in touch with the latest developments in architectural design, is taking part in FuoriMADE on via Solferino by hosting the founders of the 5+1AA firm: Alfonso Femia and Gianluca Peluffo.
The two architects take as their subject modernity in the relationship between town, environmental context and architecture. The perception and transformation of reality are key to a concept of architecture as body (“corpo”) and enigma, required to be emotional, pragmatic and sensual, intellectually communicative and capable of creating wonder as a mechanism for conveying knowledge.
The 5+1AA firm’s projects are founded on three “working emotions”.
The first one is “Generosità” [Generosity]. The subject and inspiration of public architecture, generosity generates emotions which can be shared, such as Beauty and Pleasure.
Architecture can be a location for “objective correlatives”, expressed in the form of perceptive spatial events, allowing the sharing of collective sensations, emotions and feelings.
Next comes “Corpo” [Body]. Born as the coming-together of differences, the body has polyphony as its destiny. The ideal is to pursue an idea of Architecture which is “Body”: pleasure-seeking, physical, sensual, subjective, unique, capable of forming relationships to avoid monologue; architecture as a “sexually alive body”, vehicle for meetings, dialogue, vision and reality.
The emotion of “Meraviglia” [Wonder]. Wonder is the founding element of Italy’s poetics and landscape. Architecture’s creation of wonder has nothing to do with the modern striving to please and be spectacular. Rather, the creation of wonder is the means by which knowledge of reality is achieved.
The evening will be concluded by Gianfranco Sassi, GranitiFiandre Key Account Director, who will underline the fact that perceiving reality also means listening and responding to needs. The Castellarano-based company, leader in the high-end porcelain tile sector, has always been committed to models of sustainable development, and this has led it to create Active Clean Air & Antibacterial CeramicTM. This is a production process applied to ceramic slabs which, thanks to the activation of thephotocatalytic process obtained through the application of tiny fragments of titanium dioxide, is capable of significantly reducing some of the most pollutant agents present in the air, providing protection against smog and greater respect for the environment.
