The foundation stone of the Italian Pavilion has been laid Friday 8th May by Beniamino Quintieri, General Commissioner of Italy for Shanghai World Expo 2010, in the park area of the next World Exhibition in Shanghai (1 May – 31 October, 2010). The ceremony was held at the presence of the Italian Ambassador Riccardo Sessa, the General Consul of Italy in Shanghai, Massimo Roscigno and the General Director of the Expo Organization Committee, Hong Hao.

"The world Exposition in Shanghai is at the same time a challenge and a great opportunity," the Italian Ambassador to China Riccardo Sessa recalled in his speech. "A challenge because with over 230 participants we have to be really a compact system and present an appealing and attractive offer that is for sure in our abilities. But it is also a great opportunity to show to more than 70 million expected visitors an innovative and new face, of our production system and culture".

"We intend to ensure the meaningful participation of our country, that can contribute to the overall success of the entire World Exposition. The Pavilion we now begin to build will host exhibitions and unique events, with a rich cultural and artistic program that aims to surprise and arouse emotions, to give shape to new ideas and open collaboration opportunities for Italian business" said Beniamino Quintieri, Italian General Commissioner for Shanghai World Expo 2010.

"The architecture of the Pavilion and the innovative materials that will be used for its implementation - such as the transparent cement - aim to combine the idea of modernity and tradition, avant-garde and memory. The spirit of the Pavilion, in fact, summarizes the common elements of the ancient Chinese and Italian cities, such as streets and squares, and suggests a return to a simplier life based on human relations improved by the contribution of a viable and eco-sustainable environment", said the architect Giampaolo Imbrighi, leader of the group of designers who planned the pavilion.

GranitiFiandre will contribute with its innovative materials, to proof Italian production excellence in China, taking the opportunity of showing to the millions of visitors forecasted the philosophy that consented to the company to be selected as a partner of this important project.
