On occasion of the "GranitiFiandre Open Days" 2004 (March 15th-28th), guests from the sector are invited to attend this exhibition of one of the greatest contemporary architects.

GranitiFiandre S.p.A., in collaboration with the Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna, Poltrona Frau, Grottini, Technokolla, Martini Luce, Fantoni, Albini & Fontanot, The Municipality of Modena, D.A.P.T. and Alma Mater Studiorum Bologna, is proud to present the exhibition of Opere Recenti (Recent Works) by Richard Meier.
Saturday 6th March 2004, at 17.00 at the G.Monzani Auditorium in Via Aristotele 33, Modena, the Architect Richard Meier will hold an opening conference on the main topics he considered when he carried out his latest creations (1996-2004).
The lecture by Meier will be introduced by Arch. Silvio Cassarà of Bologna, curator of the exhibition and designer together with his colleague Arch. Ferdinando Forlay of the Monzani Auditorium. Architect Cassarà has always paid attention to overseas design philosophy and was once a member of the team of collaborators employed in Meier's studio in New York. He still maintains active professional relations with the studio.
The presentation will be concluded by Graziano Verdi, President and Managing Director of Granitifiandre, who will talk about Granitifiandre's role in contemporary architecture. Richard Meier has been active since the early '60s, when he stood out in creating enchanting private homes (Smith House, Connecticut and Hoffmann House, New York); he has always exploited and enhanced the strong relationship existing between architecture and landscape.

This methodological formulation is expressed in the creation of the "Getty Center & J.Paul Getty Museum" in Los Angeles, one of the most successful examples of harmonisation of a great cultural and museum complex that turns out to be perfectly integrated in the hilly landscape of California, in which Granitifiandre materials were used too.

Important public and private customers have contributed to spread the fame of Richard Meier all over the world: among the many we cannot forget the following: the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Daimler Benz Research Centre in Ulm, Germany, The Canon Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan and the Law Courts and Federal Offices for the State of New York in Long Island.
In Italy, the talent of Richard Meier has not been limited, as it is often the case, to the reinterpretation of components of great works from classical antiquity and the Renaissance, but has re-evaluated both the great period of Rationalism of the 30's (Ridolfi and others) and Italian Modernism (Terragni).
In Italy he helped design the new Museum of "Ara Pacis" in Rome (1995); before winning the competition for designing the New Bridge of Cittadella over the River Tanaro in Alessandria (1996-2004) and finally, in 1996 he presented the definite project plan for the so-called "Chiesa del Giubileo" (Jubilee Church) in Rome, a work that, more than any others, without doubt has made Meier famous in Italy.
This building with four great "concrete sails", which seem to confirm the daring structures by Pier Luigi Nervi, is due to be finished over the next few weeks.

From 15th to 28th March 2004 GranitiFiandre invites guests to its traditional Spring appointment: "Porte Aperte" (Open Days), at the "Forum G. Monzani", Via Aristotele 33, Modena.
As described above, the event will also include the exhibition by Architect Meier.
A unique occasion, which brings together some of the most famous architectural works in the world with those who, like Granitifiandre, have made architecture their own personal aim.

Three new materials from the GranitiFiandre collection, Geologica-The New Stones, consisting of two new stones and of new plain shades, will be presented on such occasion.
Visits will also be arranged, during the fortnight, to the innovative Geologica Megastore and to the Castellarano plants (RE).
As always, GranitiFiandre offers in its usual original and innovative way, another occasion that highlights the evolution of GranitiFiandre in the field of research aimed at manufacturing the most exclusive materials for floor and wall coverings, increasingly similar in composition and appearance to quarry marbles and granites, with superior technical features in terms of brightness, uniformity, resistance and low absorption, which make them particularly suitable for all types of architectural applications.
