nuEvo is a residential basic module with a usable surface area of around 45 m2, which employs sustainable construction technologies and cutting edge energy and technological systems. One of the founding principles of the system is spatial and temporal modularity: the basic module can be connected to other functional units and the house grows in relation to the needs of its occupants - a process which is also reversible.
The module can evolve horizontally and vertically to form new, larger living units or new building clusters, known as EcoVillages, a highly transformable and scalable system which responds to the needs of the individual and allows intelligent planning of the territory.
The EcoVillage format employs a short production chain with the KM0 concept, using local goods and materials, to provide a flexible living system which can evolve with the market.
The modules are designed as pre-fabricated units in response to architecture's perennial problems: cost, flexibility of use and mobility: a pre-fabricated structure is not only time and money saving, but is also a good alternative to more traditional techniques in particularly complex situations. The materials are chosen in relation to local traditions and climate, to enable the building either to integrate itself into the existing historical and cultural context, or differentiate itself by choice from them.
The nuEvo project has been selected from the 10 winners of the national EcoLuoghi 2011 competition for sustainable living houses, promoted by the Rome Associazione Mecenate90 in collaboration with the Ministry for the Environment, and will be constructed for the international exhibition at the MAXXI Museum, Rome, from 26 June to 31 July 2012.
