In the early Fifties, the town of Molina di Quosa boasted an important social centre - the open air cinema. The films projected at the cinema had enormous success. But the facility was closed in 1979, and today it is an abandoned structure. The job consists in requalifying the site by knocking down the existing structures and refurbishing it as a residential and shopping district. The project is intended to breathe new life into the town: Molina di Quosa is on State Highway 12 (Abetone and Brennero) in the section running from San Giuliano Terme to Lucca. The presence of this important highway and the building boom of recent years have changed the tenor of the town centre, with increasing pollution leading to a generalised worsening in the quality of life. There are no longer green spaces in the town centre and modern buildings have changed the tree-lined public squares into sterile paved areas.

This makes it all the more important to use innovative technologies to improve the environmental and air quality in the interests of everyone's wellbeing. The design is driven by these considerations: and the historical and formal context impose certain geometrical criteria on the project. Note how a basic module repeats along the buildings. The design wishes to repropose the old styles in the new buildings, although the latter will employ a wide variety of modern materials including porcelain stoneware, coloured to match its context.

The porticoes will use Pietra Serena Active in the 60x30 cm size, while the curtain wall will use a variety of colours from the DataUni collection, produced with the Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic™ technology, in the 60x30 cm size.
