The project consists in building new burial recesses in a newly built cemetery, next to the existing one and closely connected to it. The aim is to increase the number of burial recesses, a requirement which, combined with the possibility of creating new, modern and user-friendly space, has given the design a genuinely contemporary architectonic and technological orientation. The design also seeks to unify the old with the new, in a synthesis of past and present.
The new burial recesses will be housed in 5 interconnected buildings, located on the outskirts of town, in harmony with the existing cemetery. The ground lot is conceived as including outdoors green areas and covered areas, to provide a modern religious facility.
The buildings are all based on reinforced concrete supporting structures, with roofs and connecting galleries in brick and concrete.
Four of them are adjacent to each other and create a single covered pedestrian area which, due to the alternation of corridors and cantilevered walkways, create a unified long walk. The last roof is covered with a scenic solar panel system featuring a glazed surface over a reticular structure, thus offering protection from the weather and support for the amorphous photovoltaic modules, which provide power to the entire complex.
The creation of wide corridors around the perimeter, with parapets and safety handrails, facilitates access to the spaces for visitors.
The surface coverings combine structural quality with modern styling. The walls of the buildings are painted white, while the walkover surfaces are finished in a variety of ways depending on their intended use.
The covered pedestrian areas of the buildings with their corridors in front of the burial recesses are floored in Anthracite Ground Fine Active frostproof porcelain stoneware slabs.
