The project consists in the architectonic and environmental requalification of a manufacturing facility belonging to Network Impresa spa, called Ceramiche Estensi, located in the northern industrial zone of Este (Padua).
The job aims to regenerate the value of the real estate, change its intended use and re-use it for a new industrial project. In line with the choice of re-furbishing the existing building, a design has been developed around the environmentally sustainable transformation of the building and modern bio-climatics. The result is an integrated building, featuring low energy consumption and exploiting the local climate to the maximum, a concept which goes beyond the passive house to a new form of "reactive" house.
The project assures correct functioning of the system by careful design of the surface areas and volumes and the heat insulation, so that the shell becomes the primary factor in energy saving and efficiency; the windows and doors act as elements for controlling sunlight and natural ventilation; the thermo-mechanical systems employ a heat pump to generate the necessary energy, coupled with an array of deep geothermal probes which make use of the constant underground temperature; electrical power to the building is provided on site by a solar system integrated into the roof.
In line with the concept of reactivity, the project also requires the building's skin to be composed of Grey Wave Extreme Active 150x75 cm slabs and Black Wave Extreme Active 150x30 cm, 150x20 cm and 150x15 cm slabs, for a total coverage of 2,048.91 m2.
The floors of certain interior spaces such as the offices, front and back office, meeting rooms and bathrooms are covered with Pietra Serena Active 60x60 cm porcelain stoneware slabs, over a total area of 3,468.41 m2.
