New Ground Active 60x30 cm : 500 mq (ca.)

The research centre at the University of Trento is located at Mattarello, and lots 1 and 2 are currently in service. Given the need to house a new research group at the department, the project has been expanded with a third functional unit, the lot 3 building.
In the context of the Mattarello research pole of the University of Trento, the project is part of CiBio (Integrated Interdepartmental Biology Centre), composed of the cognitive sciences departments and the physics, engineering and information sciences departments. The project was developed with the aim of expanding the area of the CiBio laboratories, obtaining a building which satisfies the new safety and energy standards, and is technologically advanced, especially in relation to its highly specialised intended use, using advanced materials.
The building was designed on 4 levels, three above ground and one underground, connected by a large way and two lifts.
In relation to its intended use, the underground floor houses the machine rooms (the engine of the building) and heavy laboratories (to be installed at a later date). An overhead walkway connects the first floor offices to the laboratories in the lot 1 building to the east. The top floor houses a low temperature store for research products while the outdoors terrace, protected by a metal skin with soundproofing sun shields, holds all the air conditioning and domestic water treatment equipment. The design paid special attention to the choice of construction and finishing materials. Eco-friendly materials were chosen, as well as materials which give the best heat and sound insulation.
Easy cleaning and good antibacterial properties were given priority.
Given the type and intended use of the rooms, the designer chose a floor in porcelain stoneware which is impact and stress resistant and antibacterial, such as ACTIVE which, combined with UV lamps, is best able to provide the antibacterial services required by CIBIO.
