Pietra Serena Active 60x30 cm
Quarzite Blanca Extreme Active 75x75 cm : 1315 mq (ca.)
The project provides for the creation of two buildings, one for commercial activities and the other, located where the current supermarket is, as a permanent exhibition space. The proposal consists of two volumes above ground, the museum, which will face onto a public square, and the supermarket building, with its main facade giving onto the highway at the corner of the two main roads. The two buildings, with their distinctive functions, are also materially and aesthetically different from each other.
The supermarket, which is to be transmit the values of concreteness and warmth, is tiled in Pietra Serena Active 60x30 cm slabs, interrupted on the front facade by a large full height window which gives onto the interior.
The museum, on the other hand, expresses nobility and refinement with its Quarzite Blanca Extreme Active 75x75 cm slabs and the vertical and horizontal slots in the ceiling and walls, supported by the temporary installations of coloured lighting strips which recall the paintings of Mondrian.
The result is a conflictual dialogue between the two buildings which are connected at their rears.
The space in front of the museum is conceived as a public green space, cut in half by a pedestrian avenue, while the rest of the square provides parking space for visitors and clients.
A large public and private parking lot is available on the other side of the street. The intention of the project is to integrate with its context and requalify the area: the buildings answer the recent need of this mainly residential area for a large shopping facility and entertainments. The supermarket, with its internal bar, offers an essential service to the residents, while the museum gives the area a cultural centre which grows its value and which, as an open space, is extremely flexible and adaptable to a variety of museum and exhibition initiatives.
