maTTrix is a multifunctional building complex which provides services for private and public users, as a service/office centre. maTTrix is the outcome of a design shared by the two owners of the areas, who wish to develop buildings with their own functional identities but with a unified global vision, both in terms of architectonic quality and perception by the territory. The complex encloses commercial, office, reception and recreational functions, and has a large public square and urban park of around 18,000 m2.
The project has a total volume of 30,000 m3 and, for reasons linked to its location, the surface and the need to be highly functional, will be developed vertically, to a height of 60 metres at its highest point. The two buildings will enclose, in separate but integrated ways, their commercial/recreational/office functions (TB - Bertolazzi tower) and commercial/reception functions (TR - Redaelli tower). The project is based on two elements: the matrix and the green space patio, which give life to buildings which present themselves as textures which can enclose and emphasise the two key elements, at any point inside the functional areas, whether outdoors, in the square or in the urban park. Starting from the basic 300x30 cm matrix, the design creates a pattern which ensures that the curtain walls (for the shells facing north east), the sun shades (brise-soleil), and textures of the outdoors terracing recall the perceptional unity which is the basic criterion of the entire design. It is not by chance that the two buildings are very different in terms of their construction: TB is sinuous, soft, with staggered, projecting floors, while TR is linear, rational and severe.
The heart of the project is the patio, which is at the centre of the two ground floor commercial plates (with their different forms), both in the lodges and the terraces of the towers themselves. As regards the technologies, speed of construction and pre-fabrication have been key concerns, so that both the vertical and horizontal elements inside the buildings will be laid dry, to provide excellent functional flexibility, speed of build and high quality.
The addition of Active finishings on walls and floors is a further testimony to the project's innovative attitude, to demonstrate that cleanliness of the outer facades, the sun shades and the indoors and outdoors flooring elements can express the optimisation of costs over time and absolute quality of the various environments.
