The San Lidano Agricultural Cooperative produces and sells packaged vegetables. Production is subject to rigorous controls: the vegetable production areas are subject to special environmental controls regarding both the environment and the processes themselves.
The design of the expansion specifies, for the construction materials used in the IV Gamma department, only products with demonstrated resistance to water and the cleaning products used in the production process. These requirements resulted in the selection of floorings which not only satisfy the normal requirements for industrial applications, but also provide antibacterial services by preventing the formation of bacterial biofilms. The search for the right product led to ACTIVE materials, given its antibacterial characteristics, demonstrated by laboratory tests. The independent evaluation of the material consisted of several phases.
In the first phase, the documentation submitted by GranitiFiandre was evaluated. the second phase evaluated the capacity of the product in terms of reduction of the generic bacterial loads present at the site. Samples of the selected product were provided (industrial porcelain stoneware, thickness 14 mm) for independent laboratory testing of the material against the client's requirements. The third phase was done at the client's request at the Zoo-prophylaxis Institute of Rome, specifically to evaluate the behaviour of the material in relation to the specified bacterial loads, under the condition that the evaluation be run with the lighting specified in the design for the interior of the IV Gamma rooms (neon lighting). The positive performance of the Active slabs in relation to the specified bacteria in comparison to non-active samples, indicates a logarithmic index of growth nearly equal to 0, which convinced San Lidano to floor the areas most at risk in the IV Gamma department with Active technical porcelain stoneware slabs.
