The recovery of the building, of both historic and architectonic value, adjoins new elements which satisfy the principles of eco-sustainability cited in the tender and also necessary to ensure proper use of the available resources and the overall wellbeing of the occupants, without reducing or altering the image or value of the historic building itself. The design conceives a new transparent volumetric identity to enable communications between the interior and exterior and to allow a view from outside of the massive walls of the Bricchettificio.
The new steel and glass structure, with its minimal design in contrast to the form of the original building, starts at the north of the complex and inserts itself into the old building, with the structures penetrating each other in such a way as to generate a completely novel and exciting flow of shapes. The basic idea is that of a container for the new and existing elements.
