Silver Ground Active 120x60 cm : 1150 mq (ca.)
The project is the completion of a process initiated in 2007, which has already involved Fiandre in the supply of Active indoors floor and outdoors wall tiles. The proposal is intended to provide additional space for the workshop activities. The new building is located at the rear of the existing structure, to the north east, slightly staggered relative to its front facade so as to make the large glazed entrance visible. The extension volume is completely separate from the existing building and has two storeys. The ground floor houses the entrance to the offices, with their adjacent reception area; the rest is primarily used for warehouse space. The warehouse activity is also the main function of the first floor, since only a quarter of the available space is used for offices and washrooms.
The building is prefabricated, both for the bearing structures and the perimeter walls. The roof is fitted with large openable skylights. The internal partitions and lowering of the office ceilings are in plasterboard. The reinforced concrete floor of the warehouse will alternate with stoneware flooring for the offices and washrooms. The new building intentionally balances the three storey portion of the clock to the south west of the existing complex, being also of the same height. This compositional link is emphasised by the use of analogous phonometries and the use of the same curtain wall materials: White Ground Active 120x60 cm porcelain stoneware slabs.
To mitigate the limits typical of a workshop building, the client has specifically requested that the building be characterised with certain design themes and specific finishings including, for example, the characterisation of the entrance hall (an articulated, luminous space with stairway) and the use of high performance covering materials.
