White Wave Extreme Active 150x75 cm : 2150 mq (ca.)
Symbol of growth, childhood, the first age of man, the childcare centre projects the ideal image of new life. Using the metaphor of the caterpillar which will one day become a butterfly, the project's concept embodies the idea of a new life taking shape. As a complex, the regular volumes - 5 prisms - are placed on the ground and follow its line in sequence, to create an ideal sine wave.
The largest size houses a multi-functional space for games and exercise, together with a primary school section; the office and service areas are next door. The 4 blocks of diminishing size are grouped in pairs of shared spaces for the primary school and childcare centre.
The modules are connected by a backbone in laminated wood which supports large shielded windows.
With their white, evenly textured and modular forms, the volumes of the complex overlook the landscape of L'Aquila with a shell that completely envelopes them, composed of anti-pollution and antibacterial Wave Extreme 150x75 cm slabs (made with the Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic™ processes), which form a system of curtain walls with concealed mounting equipment, and confront the natural context via the large double-glazed bow windows.
The inner layer is composed of insulating aluminium profiles and cavity windows, while the outer shell is a simple structure of aluminium and tempered, magneto-thermal glass.
