For the 2025 edition of auau, the cultural platform created by the architecture firm BLAURAUM from Hamburg to fuel architectural debate through exhibitions, discussions and readings, the chosen topic is Patina. Inspired by the long history of consumerism and the use of resources in our economic system, the topic invites us to reflect on the value of time and the acceptance of the natural ageing process, contrasting with the tendency to refuse this. "Patina" offers ideas on the enhancement of objects which, ageing, acquire a unique charm, preferring reuse, restructuring and recovery to demolition and reconstruction. The ageing of objects and materials finds a comparison with the human ageing process: can architecture be inspired by this new vision of patina?

Fiandre is the promoting partner of the artistic programme Patina, the first exhibition of which is entitled "Aging Together – Architectural Approaches for the Elderly", running from 27 February to 27 March 2025. The initiative investigates innovative architectural solutions designed to improve the quality of life of the elderly population.

The exhibition explores innovative design strategies for inclusive living environments, stimulating social interaction, mutual support and the sharing of common spaces. The designs on show include intergenerational co-housing models, elderly care cooperatives and shared residential solutions, ensuring architectural-barrier-free environments with communal gardens, kitchens and recreational areas.

With the partners Dallmer, Laufen and Prolicht, Fiandre supports this initiative aiming to foster innovative and sustainable architectural solutions responding to the needs of a continuously changing society. This partnership reflects Fiandre’s commitment to researching advanced materials and design solutions that can improve quality of life and the environmental impacts of built spaces. Taking part in "Aging Together" confirms the desire to contribute to responsible and inclusive architecture able to generate value for the community.

"Aging Together" offers food for thought on the role of architecture in guaranteeing a dignified, independent and connected life even in later life, presenting alternatives to conventional elderly care models.

The programme continues with three more exhibitions during the year:

  • Groupwork (5 June - 3 July)
  • Bruther (4 September - 30 September)
  • Natural Building Lab + ZRS (6 November - 4 December)
